Cumberland Man Arrested Following A Stabbing

A Cumberland man is arrested in connection with a stabbing. According to Cumberland Police on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 7:07 officers with and the Cumberland Fire Department responded to the wooded area between Wineow Street and the C&O Canal for a report of an assault.  Upon arrival, first responders located a 40-year-old man who was suffering from stab wounds. The victim was treated on the scene by the Cumberland Fire Department and subsequently transported to the Western Maryland Health System. Detectives from the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit also responded to assist with the investigation.  Investigation revealed that sometime overnight the victim was in that area when he allegedly had an altercation with an associate which resulted in his injuries. The victim was discovered at daybreak by a passerby.  As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for the suspect, Brian Ellsworth Johnson, age 55, charging him with felony assault, misdemeanor assault, use of a deadly weapon and reckless endangerment. Mr. Johnson was located at a Lee Street, Cumberland, residence and taken into custody without incident. Brian Johnson is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center awaiting bond hearing.  The victim is currently in serious but stable condition.
